Every girl loves to hear the two words “sample sale” being spoken! This is especially true when they are in the midst of planning an expensive wedding at a time when purse strings are being tightened and we’re witnessing the rise of the DIY bride on a budget. Dragonfly Contemporary Designs, a bridal boutique based in the regency town of Cheltenham Spa in the Cotswolds, is holding a Spring Sample Sale offering up to 70% off all their dresses in the sale. With the average cost of weddings now rising to just over £16,000 in 2013, what more could a girl ask for?

Just before the busy wedding season really kicks off, owner Suzi Hounam-Brooker will be opening her shop doors from 10am – 5pm on both days to offer all brides-to-be the unique opportunity to buy a beautiful couture wedding dress made by one of Britain’s premier bridal designers for as little as £500. These dream wedding dresses are all ex-shop samples at high street sizes 10-12 and will include designs by Stewart Parvin, SassiHolford and Suzanne Neville.

Suzi said: “I have been delighted with the excellent feedback I’ve had since opening the boutique in its new location earlier this year, but I’d really like to make way for some of the new designs I’ve seen on the catwalks recently”, she continued, “I’ve also been approached by some fantastic new British bridal designers and am really excited about introducing them to the Cotswolds very soon!”

Johanna Hehir set to showcase her latest collection in the Cotswolds

If you haven’t heard already, The White Rose Bridal Boutique (, a stunning bridal shop based in the beautiful Cotswolds, is inviting brides to a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet leading London bridal wear designer Johanna Hehir, as she showcases her latest collection of wedding dresses!

The two-day event kicks off with a catwalk show at luxury hotel and spa, Cotswold House Hotel, from 7-10pm on Saturday 10th November. Here the complete new collection of Johanna Hehir wedding dresses will be showcased to lucky brides, alongside some of the Cotswold’s finest industry suppliers also attending (yup, that includes me ladies!).

From 10-5pm on Sunday 11th November, brides will also be able to make appointments to try on the new collection of stunning gowns at Johanna Heir’s central England stockist, The White Rose Bridal Boutique, based in the beautiful town of Chipping Campden.

The boutique is renowned for its range of elegant, desirable wedding gowns and accessories by top British designers, and has firmly established itself as a destination for brides-to-be from all over the UK.

Danielle McCabe, owner of The White Rose Bridal Boutique, told me: “I am really excited about the showcase. The fact that Johanna and her team are coming to see us from their London boutique is a real treat” she continued, “it is a fantastic opportunity for local brides to come and see dresses and meet the designer herself!”

Super Stylish Inspiration From 2011

Morning all,

As I’m sure most of you know, despite writing my own blog I am also a massive fan and avid reader of many others out there in the wedding sphere. It can be a bit daunting for a bride starting out with her wedding plans, and any way of gathering inspiration is worth its weight in gold.

There are lots of fabulous UK wedding blogs to look at, and perhaps I’ll do another post soon with my absolute faves, but today I wanted to do a quick mention of the first wedding blog I ever stumbled across when planning my own wedding… Style Me Pretty.

It’s jam packed with swoon worthy images and ideas, and very kindly they’ve rounded up the very best of 2011 in a handy online publication you can read for free here! It’s got some seriously lovely themes and unique special touches, and you can print it off to cut out your faves and stick them in your wedding scrap book too. I couldn’t wait to read through the Style Me Pretty’s Best of 2011 this morning!

If you love it as much as I did and want to read more then check out the Style Me Pretty’s Best of 2010 as well.

Up on the blog at the moment is a gorgeous blue, grey and white wedding featuring the super sweet dress detail below. See what I mean? Stunning!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far, and that any newly engaged couples are well underway with their plans for the big day… 2012 and 2013 is looking busy already!

Wedding dress trends for 2012

Morning beautiful brides to be!

It’s a beautiful day here in the Cotswolds, but certainly starting to feel a bit more autumnal now. I’ll be blogging about a gorgeous winter wonderland wedding style soon but for those of you still looking for THE DRESS I thought I’d sum up a few faves and trends for 2012.

The Illusion Dress

This neckline is both elegant with a touch of sexy. It’s a perfect dress for ladies who like the idea of a strapless number but would really prefer straps to avoid hitching it up all night. A style that’s not been seen everywhere and that suits both the modest and the outgoing.

Monique Lluillier

Anne Barge

Two-Tiered Loveliness

For daring brides who want a bit of structure in their gown, and a flattering shape for those of us with slightly wider hips than our smaller framed friends.

Anna Maier

J Crew

Horsehair (but not real horses!)

This is where the hem on a dress is created with a horse hair braid. This is not actually made from horse hair (!!) , but is a synthetic nylon or plastic braiding.

This style creates a flexible but slightly stiff hemline, adding shape and movement to a skirt. It can also help to keep a long train in shape and allows you to move more easily. The new take on this look is almost a fluffy cloud like cappucino effect. Tres romantic.

Blushing Bride

More and more brides are tempted to opt for a bit more of a colourful wedding dress, throwing out traditional white for something more interesting. The colour for 2012 is a soft blushing pink, perfect for vintage brides and anyone with a gorgeous warm skin tone. Monique Llhuillier is definitely the queen of this shade.

Lace Sleeves a la Kate Middleton

She looked the picture of a classic but contemporary bride, and the look is catching on. This is a beautiful style to wear if you’re getting married in a church and want to retain your modesty whilst ticking all the trend boxes. Lily Allen also rocked this style at ther wedding this year.

The Vintage Wedding Dress Company

Sometimes you fall in love with a dress that just doesn’t fit into current trends or traditional styles, it just feels, well, YOU! I spotted these two in my research and just love ’em. Not sure I’d be brave enough to rock gladiator style boots though. 🙂

Have you rocked an unusual dress for your wedding in the Cotswolds? I’d love to see your photo’s! Or are you planning something unique but keeping it a secret? Post your comments ladies!

See you soon.
